Visa Canada Trademark Requirements

Visa Canada has specific trademark requirements that must be followed when using the Visa Brand Mark on its own or within a composite logo.

When The Visa Brand Mark Is Used On Cards

  • The * symbol must be used as the trademark denotation
  • The * symbol must appear at the upper right corner of the Visa Brand Mark.
  • The * should be set in either Arial or Whitney Medium type style and at 8 points in size.
  • The corresponding trademark legend must appear on the back of the Card and it must be one of the acceptable legends outlined in Table 1-2 of Section 1.5.B of the Visa Canada Operating Regulations.

        
Visa Brand Mark Presented On Card Applications

When The Visa Brand Mark Is Used On All Collateral Materials Other Than Cards:

  • The ® or * symbols or other symbol must be used as the trademark denotation
  • The registered trademark denotation symbol must appear at the bottom right corner of the Visa Brand Mark as demonstrated below left. The symbol should appear in either Arial or Whitney Medium. Type size will be determined by the size of the brand mark presented.
  • The corresponding trademark legend should appear in an appropriate place on the collateral material and must be one of the acceptable legends outlined in Table 1-2 of Section 1.5.A.2 of the Visa Canada Operating Regulations
  • Notification in any form must NOT appear on any of the following:
    • Merchant decals
    • Decal representations
® and * symbols may need to be rescaled in size to address readability or reproduction issues.
